
October marks the eleventh annual Italian-American Heritage Month, and Gov. Deval Patrick has issued a proclamation officially declaring October as Italian-American Heritage Month in Massachusetts. Wakefield’s own Dr. Stephen F. Maio is chairman of the state-wide committee sponsoring the month-long observance.

Topic: Using what you know to write mysteries
On Thursday, September 24 at 7 p.m. the Friends of the Library will present a panel discussion featuring mystery writers Hank Phillipi Ryan, Toni Kelner and Clea Simon of Sisters in Crime. The authors will discuss “Using what you know to write mysteries,” and the keys to developing exciting plots within your own expertise. The program is free and will take place at Beebe Library, 345 Main St., Wakefield.

It seems hard to believe that summer’s already over and many of us, kids and adults alike, are going back to school. Beebe Library can make research easier because of its many online databases provided free to you as a library cardholder. These resources are available on the computers in the library and 24 hours a day from your home, school, or office if you have Internet access. The databases include magazine and newspaper articles, encyclopedias, and even book recommendations. Most of them are provided by state or regional funding from the Northeast Massachusetts Regional Library System, of which Wakefield is a member.

The Friends of the Library and the Wakefield Climate Action Project are co-sponsoring a free program on Solar Energy on Thursday, September 17 at 7 p.m. in the Lecture Hall at Beebe Library, 345 Main St., Wakefield. Allison McFeeley of groSolar will present “Solar Made Easy,” to help you decide if solar energy is right for your home or business and point you toward state grants and federal credits to pay for a system.
The Friends of the Library will hold their annual Fall Book Giveaway on Saturday, September 26 starting at 9 a.m. in front of Beebe Library, 345 Main Street, Wakefield Massachusetts.
Experience downloadable audiobooks Sept. 14 in Beverly
Wakefield readers of all ages are invited to explore digital downloading and experience the audiobook download service offered by the North of Boston Library Exchange (NOBLE) on Monday, September 14. The “Digital Bookmobile” will be at the Beverly Public Library, 32 Essex St., Beverly, from 10 am to 4 p.m.
The Digital Bookmobile is housed inside an 18-wheel tractor-trailer. This 74-foot, high-tech community outreach vehicle is equipped with broadband Internet-connected PCs, high definition monitors, premium sound systems, and a variety of portable media players, all of which help visitors explore NOBLE’s download service.
