Friends Quilt Raffle

Friends Quilt Raffle 2009

Once again the Friends of the Library have received the generous gift of a quilt to be raffled off for the benefit of the Friends. This is a full size quilt (79 inches square) in the style of a Baltimore Album Quilt.

The quilt will be on display at the Library from early November to December 5th when the Friends will draw the winning raffle ticket. Tickets will be sold at the Reference Desk.

Please make an effort to stop by and see the quilt hanging in the Main Street Lobby when you are at the library. It is truly a lovely piece and would make a wonderful holiday gift or a beautiful addition to your home.

Wakipedia: a wiki of Wakefield history

Wakefield Common  - Wakefield, MAYou’ve undoubtedly heard of, and probably used, Wikipedia, the popular online encyclopedia. For local research Beebe Library has a similar, albeit smaller site called Wakipedia. It’s the library’s growing online compendium of articles about Wakefield’s history as well as current topics of interest. There are currently 82 articles, and we’ll be adding more as time permits. You’ll find information about famous people, schools, churches, organizations, and more.

Library Awarded $20,000 Federal Grant

From the Institute of Museum and Library Services
The Lucius Beebe Memorial Library has won a $20,000 LSTA (Library Services and Technology Act) grant from the federal Institute of Museum and Library Services, awarded by the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners.

To be used over a period of two years, the grant will enhance library services to ‘Tweens and Teens – primarily kids of middle and high school age. Funds will buy new technology and print materials, improve the furniture and appearance of the Young Adults’ room, update the Homework Center, and provide programs.
