Beebe Library, in conjunction with the Galvin Middle School Community Service Club, will offer a Reading Buddies program for children ages six and younger on Tuesday, May 8, at 3 p.m. in the Library Lecture Hall. If you have a young reader or preschooler who would like to read with, or be read aloud to by a middle school student, sign up at the Youth Desk at 781-246-6334.
Middle School students will read aloud to younger children, and do a craft and have a snack together. If you are a middle school student interested in this volunteer opportunity, contact Jim Vaillancourt at Galvin Middle School.
Last Friday, the children turned out to honor Charlotte’s Web in honor of the book’s 60th anniversary. They played carnival games, made scented pies and a craft featuring Wilbur, the book’s hero. A good time was had by all.
Calling all Connect Four, Guess Who? and Sorry masters! Stop by the lecture hall on Friday, May 4, at 3:30 to show off your strategic genius. Challenge new friends, old friends, and even the librarian to a board game of your choice. Feel free to bring games from home to play and share too. Snacks provided!
Free tickets required for this show The next Peter Sheridan Sing-Along will be held on Saturday, March 24 at 10:30 a.m. in the Lecture Hall at Beebe Library. Due to large crowds of adoring fans, the library will issue tickets to prevent overcrowding. Wakefield residents will be able to pick up tickets one week ahead of time at the Youth Room Desk. Beebe Library intends to provide at least one age-appropriate Story Time session annually for every Wakefield child. To that end, the library offers four 6-week Story Time sessions during the school year – Fall, Winter I, Winter II, and Spring. This year, the library offers Story Time session on a drop-in basis. No pre-registration is necessary. Just bring your child and library card to one of the age-appropriate Story Times offered each week. Arrive a little early so you can provide your name and library card number on your admission sheet.
The library will admit twenty children to each Lapsitor Walkers and TalkersStory Time, and fifteen children to each Threes and Fours, and Fours and FivesStory Times. If the library routinely has to turn away participants, then preference will be given to Wakefield residents. The library does not provide Story Time services to residents of communities without certified libraries.
Please plan to stay with your child during Story Time, as the adult-child interactions are an important component of the experience.
There will be no Story Times on legal holidays. When there is bad weather, please call the library at 781-246-6334 to make sure it is open. If the library has a delayed opening, Story Times will take place as scheduled, but any missed Story Times will not be re-scheduled.
