Our subscription to the BYKI (Before You Know It) online language learning system has ended. Thanks to funding from the Friends of Beebe Library, we are pleased that we will be able to offer Mango Languages as a replacement. Mango offers similar interactive learning to help you build speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills in many foreign languages as well as English as a Second Language. Thanks to funding from the Friends of Beebe Library, we are pleased to offer Mango Languages. Mango offers interactive learning to help you build speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills in many foreign languages as well as English as a Second Language. Mango replaces our subscription to the BYKI (Before You Know It) online language learning system. You can access Mango from the library or at home. From home or elsewhere you will need to log in with your NOBLE library card number. From there you can create your own free personal login which will allow you to track your progress as you learn.

If you like listening to audiobooks, take a look at this new library service! You can browse through a collection of audiobooks including fiction and nonfiction for adults, teens and children, check them out with your library card, and download them for two weeks. You can listen to the books on your PC, or transfer them to an MP3 player. Some titles can also be burned to a CD.

We have bad news and good news about the NextReads newsletter service you have been enjoying. The bad news is that Beebe Library’s subscription to NextReads will be cancelled as of August 30, 2008. However, the good news is if you wish to continue to receive newsletters from NextReads, you can easily subscribe to the NOBLE (North of Boston Library Exchange) version of NextReads starting September 2, 2008.

NoveList Plus is a great way to search for Author Read-alikes, topical lists, Award Winners, Book Discussion Guides, and Recommended Reads and much more for both Fiction and Nonfiction. This databases serves all audiences from adult to teens, older and younger kids. Looking for a new Historical Romance or an engaging narrative nonfiction title to take with you on vacation? This is a great database to explore.

Beebe Library’s online catalog was recently updated to a newer version, with streamlined screens and a few handy new features. Most of the changes help to bring the catalog more in line with the way popular and familiar search engines work on the Internet. The catalog, which can be searched at catalog.noblenet.org, is maintained by NOBLE, the North of Boston Library Exchange, of which Wakefield is a member. The catalog includes the holdings of 17 area public libraries and ten colleges.

You can now get access to the popular genealogical web site Ancestry.Com at Beebe Library.

Ancestry.com is a subscription-based genealogy research website with over 5 billion records online and more being added almost daily. The majority of records are from the United States, although a growing number of records are being added for other countries such as Canada, the United Kingdom, and various European countries. Some of these records are free for anyone to access, but most are accessible only by paid subscription.
