Those wishing to participate in Little League baseball, girl’s softball or challenger during the 2010 season may register online at http://www.wakefieldlittleleague.org.
The cost is $95 for one player, $170 for two players and $200 for three or more players.
Those registering for TeeBall/baseball must be born between May 1, 1997 and April 30, 2004. Those wishing to register for girl’s softball must be born between Jan. 1, 1993 and Dec. 31,2002. Those wishing to register for the Challengers division must be born between May 1, 1988 and April 30, 2005.
Those signing up for the first time must bring a copy of the participants birth certificate and proof of residency to the walk in registration in February or tryouts in March.
Online registration for Spring 2010 travel and intramural teams is available at www.sportsmanagers.us/Wakefield-MA-LAX.htm. Space is limited, so don’t delay.
Workshop on Wednesday, December 9 at 7 p.m.
Jeff Shmase, principal of Eagle Educational Consulting, a college admissions consulting firm, will address how the economy has impacted colleges, and its effect on admissions. Shmase will highlight what colleges are looking for in applicants, and identify ways to make applicants stand out.
The workshop will take place at Beebe Library, 345 Main St. Wakefield, MA on Wednesday, December 9 at 7 p.m.
Shmase earned his master’s degree in education from Salem State College, and a bachelor’s degree from Boston College. He is a member of the Higher Education Consultants Association.
There is no registration for the program and it is sponsored by Friends of Beebe Library.
The opening event of the December 5 Holiday Stroll will be a Holiday Hat Parade led by the Wakefield High School Marching Band. The parade will start at the Americal Civic Center, march to the Rookery and end at the steps of the Beebe Library where the band will play holiday tunes before breaking into smaller groups that will entertain throughout the afternoon.
Those wishing to participate should meet at the Americal Civic Center parking lot no later than 2:15 p.m. on December 5. wearing their favorite hat. The parade will start at 3:00.
Throughout the Stroll, there will be performances by The Senior Tones, Catch the Funk, small groups from the WHS marching band, the Middle School Chamber Group, carolers from St. Joseph School and Nazareth Academy and musical performances by the professional musicians of Emmanuel Episcopal Church.
Works by local artisans and artists will be on display in shop windows along both Main St. and Albion St. There will also be a temporary gallery at 78 Albion St.
Kids and their parents are invited to “A Special Visit with Santa” at the Commonwealth Century 21 office at 29 Albion St. from 9:30 t0 11:30. There will be complimentary photos and refreshments.
Commonwealth, The Century 21 office at 29 Albion St. will be open from 3:– to 7:00. Kids and parents can drop in for a movie and create a holiday memory with art supplies. Refreshments and use of the restrooms will be provided.
After the parade shoppers are welcome to shop at the 40 stores participating in the Holiday stroll and enjoy discounts, raffles and holiday treats. There will also be more entertainment.

Wakefield High School Alumni Foundation will host their third annual Thanksgiving Day Pancake Breakfast on Thursday, November 26 from 7-9 AM in the Wakefield High School Cafeteria. Tickets are $5 per person or $15 for a family ticket. Tickets are sold at Smith Drug, Wakefield Daily Item, or at the main office at Wakefield High School.
On Saturday, November 21 at 9 AM, the Burbank YMCA will hold its annual 5K Classic to benefit the Reach Out campaign, which provides financial assistance to families in Reading, Wakefield, North Reading, Woburn, and Wilmington.
