Are you, or is someone you know, unable to come to the library because of physical limitations?
Beebe Library has a service for Wakefield residents who are physically unable to come to the library. We delivery books to their homes.
For example, if someone broke a leg or can’t see well enough to drive, they can call the reference desk at 781-246-6336 x2 and explain the situation. Ask to speak with Reference Librarian Beth Radcliffe, but if she is not available, any of the reference staff can help.
If there are specific books that the person desires, the librarians will do their best to get them. If no specific book is requested, the librarian will ask what books the person has recently read, what kinds of books the person enjoys, and conversely, what kinds of books they dislike. From that, and maybe a few other questions, the librarians will choose books for them to read. If the person has vision problems, they select large print books or audio books instead. The books will be delivered to the patron’s home via the library’s network of volunteers.
When that group of books is read, the patron again calls the library to return the books. If more books are desired, the old set will be picked up when the new ones are delivered.
Currently Beebe Library has 15 people making use of the system. The library would be pleased to add anybody else who would like to use this service. Call 781-246-6334 if you are interested or if someone you know would benefit from having the library arriving at their door. And if you would like to join our cadre of volunteers, we welcome your help in enabling all residents of Wakefield to explore the world through the library.
