Mini-grant enables library to offer special storytimes
Mother Goose on the Loose is a story program that helps children develop early literacy skills, a stepping stone in getting your child ready to read. Nursery rhymes, movement games, finger plays, music and story encourage children to recognize patterns of language as very small children.
As children acquire language skills, they become more adept at wordplay and storytelling. Research shows that before the age of two, a child’s brain forms neural pathways that help develop early literacy skills. So it’s never too early to read to your little one.
The Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners awarded Beebe Library a mini-grant to implement the Mother Goose on the Loose story time program. The Programs begin in January and take place for eight weeks. A second term will begin in March. To register for Mother Goose on the Loose, fill out a registration form online at www.wakefieldlibrary.org, or call the Youth Desk at 781-246-6334, ext. 3.
Federal Funding for Mother Goose on the Loose is provided by the Institute for Museum and Library Services, administered by the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners.
