September is National Sewing Month

Beautiful Beebe Library on Main Street is a great space for community members to showcase and share their special interests. This week, visitors to the library will find a display presented in collaboration with local needle workers, who earlier this month offered an open house sewing workshop in the library lecture hall.

National Sewing Month originated in 1982 by proclamation of President Ronald Reagan “in recognition of the importance of home sewing to our Nation.”
Each September, The American Sewing Guild and The Sewing & Craft Alliance join forces to promote the craft and life-skill of sewing. Yearly themes emphasize the useful, do-it-yourself fun and eco-friendly nature of sewing.
Saving money and creative satisfaction are just two reasons to learn to sew or advance your needlework skills. Beebe Library can help you find a project that is just right for you. In addition to books and magazines, the library’s public computers and WiFi provide access to databases and websites on a range of sewing topics, including dressmaking, embroidery, needlework, quilting, soft toy making, sewing machines, and needlework supplies.

Items you may currently find on display at the library include: Martha Stewart’s Encyclopedia of Sewing and Fabric Crafts, by Martha Stewart; Royal School of Needlework Embroidery Techniques by Sally Saunders;
Crib Quilts and other Small Wonders, by Thomas Woodard; Simple sewing; the complete illustrated machine-side reference of tips and techniques, by Beth Baumgartel; So Simple Window Style, by Gail Abbott; Custom Slipcovers Made Easy, by Elizabeth Dubicki; Threads magazine; and Crafts‘n Things magazine.

Stop in soon and often to browse library displays and discover something new.
