E-books Now Available!

As part of the OverDrive downloadable collection provided by the NOBLE network, Beebe Library patrons can now access a selection of recent fiction and nonfiction e-books through our digital collection. You can use your library card to check e-books out and download them to your computer using free Adobe Digital Editions software. You can read the books on your computer, or transfer them to a supported e-book reader like the Sony Reader or the Barnes and Noble Nook. Other devices should be supported soon.

Book Swap Tea February 13

Book Swap TeaJoin the Friends of Beebe Library on Saturday, February 13, 2-4 p.m., for a “Book-Swap Tea” in the library’s Lecture Hall. This is a fun event where book-lovers trade books they love while enjoying light refreshments. Bring one or more books that you think others will like as much as you did and which you are willing to give away. Everyone who brings a book will bring home a different book highly recommended by a participant. Leane Ellis of the Beebe Library Reference Department will give a brief talk about book groups and other resources available through the library for finding good books.

January is Jane Austen Month

Library plans events to celebrate
During the month of January the library will be celebrating Jane Austen with displays and a variety of programs, including movies, a Regency Period Costume Demonstration and a Bollywood Bance Demonstration.

Library Awarded $20,000 Federal Grant

From the Institute of Museum and Library Services
The Lucius Beebe Memorial Library has won a $20,000 LSTA (Library Services and Technology Act) grant from the federal Institute of Museum and Library Services, awarded by the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners.

To be used over a period of two years, the grant will enhance library services to ‘Tweens and Teens – primarily kids of middle and high school age. Funds will buy new technology and print materials, improve the furniture and appearance of the Young Adults’ room, update the Homework Center, and provide programs.

Early Literacy & Preschool Services

New brochure for parents now available
"Mother Goose on the Loose" Story TimeA baby’s brain is wired to establish language in the first two years of life. Early literacy skills are the foundation for comprehension, speech, reading and later learning. Beebe Library provides programs, materials and services that promote early literacy.

Now, thanks to federal funding provided by the Institute for Museum and Library Services and administered by the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners, Beebe Library has produced a colorful brochure for parents outlining the library’s services for preschoolers.
