Peter SheridanThe next Peter Sheridan Sing-Along for children ages 5 and under will be held on Saturday, March 16, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. in the Lecture Hall at Beebe Library. Due to large crowds of adoring fans, the library will issue free tickets to prevent overcrowding. Wakefield residents may pick up tickets beginning March 9 at the Youth Room Desk. Non-residents may get tickets the day of the concert. Phone 781-246-6334, x3 for further information.


New Story Time Schedule

New sessions get underway this week!
"Mother Goose on the Loose" Story TimeLapsit, a story time for babies ages three months to twelve months, takes place Wednesdays at 11 a.m. from March 6 – April 10.
Walkers and Talkers Story Time for children age 12 months through 35 months.
Children will learn songs, nursery rhymes and finger plays, play movement games and musical instruments, and listen to simple stories. The Walkers and Talkers Story Times run for about 30 minutes each session. Twenty walkers and talkers and their caregivers will be admitted each session. Thursdays & Fridays, March 7 – April 12 at 9:30 a.m. and 11 a.m.

Story Time for children age three and four
Children will enjoy stories, songs, finger plays, physical movement games and a simple craft. Threes and Fours Story Time will admit fifteen children and lasts for 45 minutes. March 5 – April 9 at 9:30 a.m. and 11 a.m.

Story Time for children aged four and five years old Children will build their listening comprehension and storytelling skills, and make something with their hands. Fifteen children will be admitted each session for the 45 minute program. Wednesdays, March 6 – April 10 at 9:30 a.m.

Pajama Story Times for all children age 5 and under
Wednesdays, March 6 – April 10, 6:30-7:30 p.m.


Kidstock! Theater for Kids

Friday, August 17, 2012 at 10:30 a.m.
KidstockKidstock! Theater returns on Friday, August 17, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. in the Lecture Hall for its final local performance this summer. Kidstock performs live theater for children, and the actors rely on the audience for help with their stories. These programs are suggested for children ages seven and under.

Summer Reading Program 2012

Special Events & activities for kids all summer long
Our 2012 Summer Reading Program, “Dream Big – Read!” at Beebe Library is now underway!.

KidstockThroughout the summer, children will read and earn prizes. In addition, the number of hours that children read will fuel food donations for the Stone Zoo’s two biggest residents, a pair of bears named Smoky and Bubba. Let’s see how much we can help out this pair of beloved animals.
The summer will also be packed with Special Events and activities for kids of all ages.

Children’s Concert with Peter Sheridan Feb. 18

Peter Sheridan Singer Peter Sheridan shares songs, music, and stories with young children. Join Peter and friends for a fun-filled morning. Caution: Dancing may break out during this program. Saturday, February 18 at 10:30. Free.
For children ages 5 and under.


Beebe Children’s Librarian Gray Sawyer Retiring

Public reception Sept. 1, 3-5 p.m.
Gray Sawyer“The whole time that I’ve lived in Wakefield, the library has been a focus,” says Gray Sawyer, who will be retiring on Sept. 1 after 12 years as a Beebe Library Children’s Librarian. “The library has been my anchor in Wakefield, and for my family as well.”
The public is invited to a retirement reception for her in the Beebe Library Lecture Hall on Thursday, September 1, from 3-5 p.m.
Prior to working at the library, Sawyer served three terms (9 years) as a member of the Board of Library Trustees, from 1985 to 1994.

Kids’ Summer Reading Program 2011

Programs and events for all ages from toddlers to teens
“One World, Many Stories” is the theme for Beebe Library’s 2011 Summer Reading Program for Kids. All summer long, Beebe Library offers programs and events for kids of all ages that will give them a chance to explore their world. In addition to the special events and activities, kids are encouraged to join our Summer Reading Club.
When you register in the Youth Room for the One World, Many Stories Summer Reading Program, you will receive a tracking sheet to record the number of hours you spend reading. You receive a prize when you read at least two hours and turn in a tracking sheet. You can read as many hours as you like. Prizes vary depending on the amount of reading that you do. Continue »


Children’s Concert with Peter Sheridan Jan. 8

Peter SheridanPopular children’s entertainer Peter Sheridan returns to Beebe Library on Saturday, January 8, 2011. Peter will perform songs for young children at 10:30 a.m. in the Lecture Hall. Admission is free. Sponsored by the Friends of Beebe Library.


News From the Youth Room

The Winter 1 session of Story Time that begins in November is currently filled. Patrons are encouraged to apply for the Winter 2 classes at this time. Winter 2 sessions run from January 11 through February 18. Register online, or view a complete schedule.
Young Adults AreaYA Advisory Board will meet on Wednesday, November 17 at 3 p.m. in the Program Room. This group suggests and plans library activities for kids in middle school as part of the Tweens and Teens grant from the Institute for Museum and Library Services, administered by the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners. New members are welcome. Stop in for soda and cookies.
Manga Swap will take place on Tuesday, November 16, 2:30-3:30 p.m. in the Lecture Hall. Bring your lightly used manga favorites to swap and trade with other kids. Soda and cookies provided.
