Guillow's is known worldwide as a maker of model airplanes, including balsa wood and foam gliders. They currently make over 55 model kits and ready-to-fly models at their factory at 40 New Salem Street. The company was founded in 1926 by Paul K. Guillow, a World War I navy pilot. The company was originally located in his home, but grew sufficiently to relocate to the New Salem Street plant in 1933. Guillow's currently employs 45 people and has been run for many years by president Al Smith.
