Wakefield's Post Office is located next door to the Lucius Beebe Memorial Library at 321 Main Street, at the corner of Yale Avenue. It can be reached by phone at 781-245-3831. The Greenwood Post Office phone number is 781-245-4188.

Wakefield's current post office is the most recent in a long string of buildings and locations since postal service was established in Wakefield (then South Reading) in 1812. The first post office was located almost across Main Street from the current building in the Brown Block or Jordan Block. The town's first postmaster was John Rayner. The post office remained at that location from 1812 until sometime between 1852 and 1860 (sources vary), when Samuel Kingman built the Kingman Block at 369 Main Street, at the corner of Albion Street. Kingman was postmaster at the time, and the post office remained in that building, later known as the Bourdon Block until 1901, when it moved to the Richardson Block at the corner of Main Street and Richardson Avenue. It was there until April 1, 1924, when it moved yet again to 9 Albion Street, which is now the home of the Wakefield Municipal Gas & Light Department. Finally, in 1936 the current building was constructed next to the library at 321 Main Street. It was designed by architect Louis A. Simon. It has an exterior of red brick and cast stone, and on the Main Street facade are medallions of Benjamin Franklin and George Washington. A large rear addition was constructed in 1970.
