Supper Sleuths
From Webster's Collegiate Dictionary:
Main Entry: psy·cho·path Pronunciation: 'sI-k&-"path Grittier than most other categories in the Mystery genre, these mysteries can be considered Psychological Suspense. They often entail a psychopathic killer pursuing (usually) a woman as a common plot element. These novels are almost as much about the threshold of horror we can expect to confront as readers as it is about the ingenious or hapless sleuths who solve the heinous crimes. These, like others in the Psychological Suspense genre, cast the reader in the role of fascinated observer, as we compulsively watch these tales of characters caught in the web of their worst nightmares. The majority of the psychopathic killers from the following authors deal in twisted plots, warped minds, obsession, revenge, and diabolical intellect or just plain meanness gone horribly awry. This month's selections are not for the faint of heart--or for those mystery readers who want their crimes off the page--technicolor graphic description is probable.
The following is a list of titles by author. Whenever possible, the series is in order of publication date. Most series are incomplete because many plots do not feature a psychopath. This is by no means an exhaustive list, and please let us know if you feel that a title should be here. Please read one or more titles or from an author, and come prepared to discuss your impressions of them with the group.
Definition: a mentally ill or unstable person; especially : a person having a
psychopathic personality
