Supper SleuthsSports mysteries cover as much ground as a fast quarterback and can be found in almost every genre of mystery that exists. The accompanying list contains books about spectator sports mysteries that take place on the court, field, or green. Sports like boxing, swimming, skiing, and car racing are not included; however, baseball, basketball, football, hockey, soccer, tennis & golf give us plenty of reading choices for this round.
Some books are co-authored by athletes like Jim Bouton, Boomer Esiason, and Fran Tarkenton. A few sports writers also make the list: John Feinstein and Mike Lupica. Alison Gordon writes about a Canadian sports writer in her excellent Kate Henry series. Some of the plots take place on or around the basketball court, football field, baseball diamond, or golf green; others revolve around the big and complex business of sports so look for money as the motive.
Thank you to Beebe Reference Librarian Beth Radcliffe for her thorough research on this list.
The following is a list of titles by sport and then by author. Whenever possible, if a series, the titles are in order of publication date. Series characters are in parenthesis after the author's name. This is by no means an exhaustive list, and please let us know if you feel that a title should be here. Please read one or more titles, and come prepared to discuss your impressions of them with the group.
