As part of the fall celebrations which include Family History Month in October, join us and start exploring the roots of your ethnic origins.  In three separate evenings, come to learn how to search for your Italian, Irish or English ancestors.  See how to use the information you gained from your immigrant ancestor to make the ‘hop across the pond” to ancestral homes.

Andiamo! Finding Your Italian Family gets you started on Italian-American research. Presenter Margaret Fortier will cover background on Italy, why your ancestors left, where they settled, and why your grandfather has five cousins named Vincenzo. This program includes examples of useful records in the US and Italy. Knowing what their life was like in the old country helps us to understand their choices and behavior when they came to America: why they were slow to naturalize, why the family was the most important institution, why they worked as laborers, why food was a source of celebration. A handout with relevant publications and websites is provided.
