We’ll be watching and discussing the short documentary ‘Behind the Screens: Hollywood Goes Hypercommercial’ exploring product placement, tie-ins, merchandising and cross-promotions. It combines multiple examples taken directly from the movies (Forrest Gump, The Lion King, Toy Story, etc.) with incisive interviews provided by film scholars, cultural critics, political economists, and an Oscar-nominated screenwriter. Discussion will be led by Reference Desk film buffs, Jeff Klapes and Brigid Black.
And with the Oscars a week away, we’ll leave plenty of time to share our Oscar favorites. Popcorn will be provided!
