Joseph C. Payro

Joseph C. Payro was a Wakefield historian, painter, and photographer. Born in Montreal on November 17, 1862, he moved to Wakefield at the age of 21 in 1883. He lived at 17 Curtis Street. In addition to his job as a reed worker at the Heywood-Wakefield Company, he was for many years a member of the Wakefield Historical Society and painted and photographed sites and scenes of Wakefield. The Lucius Beebe Memorial Library owns several of his paintings and photographs. Payro died at the age of 91 on February 13, 1953.
