🦫 Explore Nature
Reconnect with the natural world through three exciting programs in collaboration with Massachusetts Audubon,
- Virtual: Quaking Bogs & Fens of Massachusetts
Scattered amongst the better-known habitats of the Commonwealth are the little-explored regions of quaking bogs and peaty-soiled fens. Sunken in the lowest contours of the landscape, these habitats’ unique features include carnivorous plants, flood water absorbing sphagnum moss, showy orchids, and blueberries and cranberries.
Few animals can change entire landscapes like beavers can. The American Beaver is an incredible wetland engineer and can be found throughout Massachusetts transforming their habitats. This online presentation will cover beaver family life, range, lodge and dam maintenance, and how they contribute to the biodiversity of open spaces.
And don’t miss local geologist Richard Butts, who will take us on a fascinating journey through the geology of Wakefield. (You should come—he rocks!)
